DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The City of Southgate Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for the Ice Arena, Ballfields, SouthWinds Golf Course, Senior Center, Recreation Programs, and all City Parks and Pavilion Rentals.
The department boasts Municipal Complex area on Reaume Parkway and Dix-Toledo Road with Recreation amenities such as an Ice Arena with two indoor ice rinks, nine baseball/softball fields, golf course, dog park and an outdoor inline rink.
Soon the Complex will also see the development of Downriver's FIRST Miracle League Field along with the redevelopment of the aged tennis courts - to include two tennis courts, six pickleball courts and a padel court along with site amenities, shade structures, new fencing and lighting and a paved parking area.
Along with the other city parks and neighborhood parks, it totals just over 51 acres of land. That doesn’t include the Southgate Nature Center, which is about 40 acres near Southgate Anderson High School. The City has a partnership with Southgate Community Schools that provided a Nature Center and walking trail that is part of the Downriver Linked Greenways.
Market Center Park has become the place for events, music and outdoor markets. Weekly Thursday concerts occur throughout the summer courtesy of our Downtown Development Authority (DDA). PARK PAVILION RENTAL INFORMATION
Park Rentals may be made up to one year in advance at the Southgate Parks & Recreation Department.
All fees are due at the time of booking and Proof of Residency is required. Booking can only be done at the Southgate Parks & Recreation Department located inside of the Southgate Ice Arena across from the Police Department.
Dog License Information
The items needed to license a dog is proof of current rabies vaccination, spay/neuter paperwork if applicable. The fees are $1.00 for seniors 60 or over, if not a senior if the dog is spayed/neutered it’s $5.00 and intact is $10.00 for a period of 1 year. Dogs need to be registered yearly between May 1st and June 30th. If a dog owner register their pet late (after June 30th ) the fees double, with the exception of seniors, they only pay $1.00 even if they register late.
If a resident is new to Southgate or get a new pet after the renewal period we can still register said pet at a prorated rate, (depending on what month they register).
